Course Reserves--General Information

The Course Reserves collection contains supplementary course materials (copies of articles, magazines, books, solution manuals, text books, course packets, sample exams and sample projects) provided by faculty in support of course curriculum. These materials are separated from the general collection in the library and are organized under restricted term use.

Hours

The Course Reserves Desk is open the same hours as the Library. A current schedule of the library hours is available at Library Hours.

Locations

Course Reserves Desk

Course Reserves materials in print form are available at the Circulation Desk, 1st floor, Library South. Some materials are accompanied by an electronic copy that is linked directly from the Library Catalog and can be accessed from home computers.

Audiovisual Reserves

Audiovisual Reserve items (videos, audiocassettes, records, CDs, DVDs) are located at the AVCMC Reserve Room, 4th floor, Library North.

Electronic Reserves

Some reserve materials are available in electronic form (e-reserve) and will be labeled with option to view directly from the Library Catalog with Adobe Acrobat Reader.

How Do I Place Material on Reserve?

CSUF faculty may place instructional materials (personal copies or library books) on reserve by accompanying them with a Reserve Book Room form. Print copies of the Reserve Book Room form are available at the Circulation Desk (1st floor, Library South).

Personal items must be bound or in a folder (three-ring binder or manila folder).

Library books must accompany the form when added to Course Reserves.

Electronic-reserve materials follow the same process as print.

The following information will be needed to process reserve materials (Note: A separate form must be completed for each class).

  • Your name, department, and office phone extension
  • Course name (e.g., Intro to Archaeology) and course number (e.g., Anthropology 103)
  • Desired loan period for the materials (2 hours, 1 day, 2 days, or 7 days)
  • Author, title, and copyright information for each item
  • Copyright: Instructors are responsible for clearance of Copyright Law for reprinted materials. All reserve materials must be in compliance with the “fair use” provision of the U.S. Copyright Law. For more information, please see the U.S. Copyright Office.
Materials
  • CSUF library materials or personal copies of items may be put on reserve. Materials from other libraries are not accepted.

Process Time

  • Materials submitted 3 weeks prior to first day of instruction will be available the first day of instruction.
  • Materials submitted 2 weeks prior to first day of instruction will be processed as soon as possible but it cannot be guaranteed that the materials will be available the first day of instruction.
  • A copy of the syllabus will help reserve staff prioritize and accurately label the items.
  • Materials submitted during the semester may take up to three days to process.
  • Materials submitted for both hardcopy and e-reserve formats will take longer to process, but the hardcopy could be available first.
